Bone Mosten - Sexiest Male Avatar 2008

Hip, hip, hooray! Bone Mosten overwhelmingly won the Sexiest Male SL Avatar of 2008 as voted by the community on the New World Notes Blog and organized by Iris Ophelia.

I'm very pleased for two reasons - the first and least because Boner is a friend of mine, the second and most important is because Bone is one of the funniest and nicest and most talented folks you'll ever meet in SL. The fact that he came into SL and created a non-stereotypical avatar, and infused much of his own taste and personality into creating his persona, and has the sense of humor and intact ego that he can play games with his appearance and not feel threatened in the least by it, is much of what makes him, in my mind anyway, an awesome addition to the world.

I always love Iris' writing, on NWN or on her own blog Ophelia Drowns. She's chosen an eclectic group of avatars to vote for. Not a single blinging SL uberbouncer in the whole group.

Come Sail Away

Here's a wonderful article on the joys of open water sailing by my good friend Elisha Paklena Baby Steps (or, Mowry to Benicia) in the SL Sailing Blog .

There are all kinds of sailors in SL - open water, solitary, team, course racers, open water racers, meditators, teachers, organizers, explorers, experimenters, scripters, testers, cruisers, designers, and drunks. ;) Some are many of the above. The SL sailing blog is a great resource for all - check it out! Newcomers to racing are always welcomed with open arms!

Project Open Letter

This letter is being sent to Linden Labs tomorrow, an open letter asking LL to address ongoing problems that are causing financial losses, inability to create and keep content, and inconsistencies with record keeping, among myriad other issues. It was written by Cristiano Midnight, and signed by over 400 members so far.

"As I thought more about it, I realized that just because we no longer have a centralized place we can raise and discuss issues collectively does not mean that we do not have a voice. While an individual forum post may not draw much attention, the visibility of an open letter on a large number of SL web sites and blogs, along with locations in SL would at least help to get attention to the message. Whether it can bring about change remains to be seen, but the effort so far has been worthwhile."

Lehua the Storyteller

Lehua Lamington, storyteller extraordinaire, opened the Serenity performance venue in grand style with her unique brand of story telling. Lehua tells a delightful combination of story elements - the traditional, the fanciful, the human, the family, the supernatural, - including Hawaiian history and topography and rich culture and pulllllls her listeners into the world that she weaves around them.

Telling traditional stories with titles such as "Flying Through Pig-shaped Clouds", Lehua enchants and enthralls her audience, which only grows during the performance as friends drag in other friends for this unique type of SL live performance. Lehua uses her rich and expressive voice to tell the stories, in real time, to her rapt audience. You can hear the silence from the audience, as Lehua finishes each tale, the audience silently hoping that the story has not yet ended. Lehua's storytelling is magic.

Faith and Religion in SL

Interesting but brief article today in the McPaper on faith and religion as practiced and expressed in Second Life. A good sampling of faiths and religious beliefs, both traditional and non, denominational and non, organized and un.

Apparently, in the season of Passover and Easter and Vernal Equinox, faith is where you find it.

TruCor Catamaran Fundraiser - Update

The Catamaran launch in Nantucket this past weekend was quite a success.

Jacqueline Trudeau of TruCor announced that seventy-two catamarans were sold during the event, and the proceeds will be donated to the Michael J. Fox Foundation in the name of Djduerer Zou. Thanks to all who attended and helped out and supported the event.

TruCor Catamaran Launch & Fundraiser

The TruCor "Beach Cat" will make it's SL debut at the Nantucket Yacht Club on Sunday, March 18th at 7 pm SLT. All proceeds from the event will be donated to medical research in fond memory of SL resident and our friend and fellow sailor Djduerer Zou. The event is jointly sponsored by Kazenojin Seiringu, Starboard YC, Mowry Bay YC and Nantucket YC.



Come on down to the docks in Nantucket (Cuttyhunk 57,247,22) and celebrate DJ, share stories, see old friends, meet new ones, support neurological medical research, and maybe take home what promises to be a SL's latest advancement in sailing. I can't wait to try one of these!

Generally available starting March 19 at the TruCor Marina in Chong, the Beach Cat features SL's most realistic sailing scripts based on those of Kanker Greenacre using SL wind. It's designed as a light, fast and realistic sail, and is capsizable. It includes a HUD attachment for common sailing commands, and can be used for solo or collaborative sailing fun. It's non-transferrable but multiple skippers can be designated. TruCor Designs is Jacqueline Trudeau and Larinda Cordeaux.

Virtual Angels Yard Sale

Head on over to the Virtual Angels Yard Sale over in the Useful Technology Sim, and bring a friend or six. They'll thank you. Designer Simone Stern and a group of friends and supporters have been having a charity yard sale to raise money for Ayeshe Millions, who is suffering from an Acoustic Neuroma in RL, and needs to travel to the US for medical treatment.

Seemingly acre upon acre of sale items, most of them by Simone Stern, and none of them priced over 100L$. Some of Simone's retired designs are here as well. Skins, jewelry, hair, shoes, even furniture, all under $100L$. I didn't know what the charity part of the yard sale was for, and happened to ask Ayeshe herself about it! She was very gracious and filled me in on what the Virtual Angels organization and yard sale was all about.

Response from the community has been very strong, I've had this landmark handed to me by at least half a dozen people. On occasion, the sim is full, so keep trying!
